Cha Jun-hwan (Korea University)스포츠토토 the Korean representative of figure skating men’s singles, marked the 3rd place in the short program at the International Skating Union (ISU) World Championships. The medal harvest green light has been turned on. 

In the men’s single short program at the 2023 ISU Figure Skating World Championships held at Super Arena in Saitama, Japan on the 23rd, Cha Jun-hwan scored a total of 99.64 points with a technical score (TES) of 55.04 and a arts score (PCS) of 44.60. That’s 3rd place out of 34.

The first place was taken by Japan’s ‘defending champion’ Shoma Uno (104.63 points). Second place was Ilya Malinin (USA, 100.38 points).

Cha Jun-hwan, who ranked 10th, the highest ever in the 2021 competition, aims to win the first ever medal for a Korean male player in this competition in the men’s single free skating held at the same place on the 25th. 

Kim Yu-na (2 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze medals) is the only player in Korean figure skating history to win a medal at the World Championships, both male and female.

On this day, Cha Jun-hwan also took his personal record. He surpassed his personal best score of 99.51 in the short program set at last year’s Beijing Winter Olympics.

Cha Jun-hwan received a GOE score of 4.02 by neatly completing the first jump quadruple salcho, which required 4 laps. He also performed the triple lutz-triple loop combination jump perfectly.

Following the flying camel spin and triple axel, Cha completed his performance by stably performing foot sit spin, step sequence, and change foot combination spin.
