The Pittsburgh Pirates couldn’t capitalize on their scoring chances and fell to the Miami Marlins.

Pittsburgh dropped a 3-4 decision to Miami on Friday night at Rondipo Park in Miami, Fla.

Pittsburgh fell behind 0-2 in the first inning. They tie the game in the bottom of the eighth. In the eighth inning, Andrew McCutchen led off with a double and scored on Carlos Santana’s RBI single.

Then, in the top of the ninth, they tied the game. Two batters later, Nick Gonzalez led off with a walk, and Jansen Delay followed with a game-winning single to the deep left field fence.

The teams couldn’t settle the score, and the game went into extra innings.

But the Pittsburgh mound couldn’t protect the lead. David Bednar, one of the best bullpen arms in the league, gave up a run on a sacrifice fly to center field to Yuli Gurriel to tie the game.

Pittsburgh with momentum lost. In the bottom of the 11th, with runners on first and third, Angel Perdomo gave up the game-winning hit to John Berti.

McCutchen had a career day at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a double, a walk, and a run scored, but it wasn’t enough to prevent his team from losing.
